Magic Wheels
Magic Wheels are manufactured in Kent, WA by Provail.
Tidbit – Magic Wheels were invented and designed by the same person who designed the Sonicare toothbrush and Clarisonic face cleaner!
-
Magic Wheels features
- 2-speed geared wheels
- Indications – Users who can propel a manual wheelchair on hard, level ground, but have weakness and/or shoulder pain when ascending inclines or challenging ground.
- Features
- User can shift between 1-1 and 2-1 gears by a simple flip of the lever on the face of the wheel hub
- In 1-1 gear, operates like a regular wheel
- In 2-1 gear, handrim travels at twice the speed of the wheel (i.e., the handrim makes two revolutions for every revolution of the wheel). Thus, it takes half the effort to propel up inclines or over challenging ground. The 2-1 gear also features a built in hill holding mechanism.
- Weight – Adds ~5 lb. per wheel compared to standard wheels
- Since most of the weight is concentrated around the center of the wheel, the added weight has a negligible impact on the effort to propel.
